Tom Barker Lantern

Tom Barker Lantern

The history of America would not be complete without the story of Paul Revere and the signal lanterns that indicated the movement of the British troops.  Tom Barker from Falls Cabinet brings that American spirit and craftsmanship to our Guild by agreeing to demonstrate his unique turned lantern that makes for a great gift or ornament.  This Demo will kick off our new fall woodcraft season this September the 3rd at 7:00 at Eastern Idaho Technical College.

We will of course have our instant gallery with both the silver and gold categories so please bring something to enter.  At our last meeting we had prizes go unclaimed so the odds are good that you can win a prize.

Members don’t forget the Challenge: “Turned This Summer”.  Anything will do no requirements other than you had to have turned it in the last 3 months. Of course non- members are encouraged to sign up as a member and meet the challenge of bringing something that they turned this summer.

As always will be having our raffle and we encourage you to bring items for the raffle that you would be willing to donate to the guild.  This is an important fundraiser that helps sustain the guild.
Plan on attending this kickoff event and start another great year with the Woodcraft Guild.

Location Details: Eastern Idaho Technical College Building # 2 Room 207A. If you turn off of 17th Street going North between Pier 1 imports and Burger King onto Ashment then right (east) between the old Ponderosa Paint and the LDS institute building you will see building #2 on your left. It is a brick building with rounded corners. There is an outside door to the room we will be using and it will be propped open.

Report:  Tom’s Demo was excellent, Great handouts, samples and he did an excellent job at guiding us through the whole process.  Well attended and enjoyable Thanks Tom.

”Elegance” is a term of great impact and one that is equally broad in interpretation. For the purposes of this contest, it could mean a turning that relates to function or is strictly decorative — as simple as a child’s toy, as useful as a lace bobbin, or as powerful as a sculpture. Contestants are urged to define elegance for themselves, and then to incorporate their vision in their entry. As you conceive of ideas, place in the back of your mind the word “waltz” rather than “jitterbug.”

The prizes:
The following prizes, provided by the contest sponsors, will be awarded at the judges’ discretion:
