10,000 Villages Handmade Art and Craft Fair

ten-thousand-villagesFriday November 12th from noon – 7pm and Saturday the 4th from 9am – 4 pm the 10,000 Villages Fair Trade Festival is at First Lutheran Church, located on the corner of Sunnyside and Rollandet in Idaho Falls. This annual event is an opportunity for the Eastern Idaho Community to view and purchase hand-made art and craft items. All proceeds go to help build  world-wide fair trade. It is a wonderful opportunity to join in mission to support other countries that do not currently have the same opportunities as we do in our country.

This annual event features some of the area’s finest artisans where you will find handcrafted, one-of-a-kind gifts for everyone on your list! Guild members and participants will be presenting at this year’s Beaux Cadeaux including Alan Yonk’s Woodcarvings and David John Stosich Woodlock Puzzles. Don’t miss the Art Museum’s annual holiday shopping extravaganza Friday and Saturday, November 6 & 7 from 11 am - 8 pm!

Richard Anderson will be the demonstrator for the December 3rd meeting at 7:00 pm.  Richard is an accomplished wood turner that is always willing to help, he will be demonstrating a how to turn a goblet using the wood lathe.   While these goblets won’t be useful for drinking they make great decretive accents and provide a great way to hone your wood turning skills.

Meeting Events:
• Raffle — As always will be having our raffle and we encourage you to bring items for the raffle that you would be willing to donate to the guild.  This is an important fundraiser that helps sustain guild events, demos and prizes.
• Instant Gallery –  Silver level and Gold Level
• Members Challenge — Members don’t forget the Challenge: “Create a Christmas Ornament. that you will be willing to trade”  Of course non-members are encouraged to sign up as a member and meet this month’s challenge item.
• Lending Library
• Chance to Socialize with other woodworkers in the area

Location Details: Eastern Idaho Technical College Building # 2 Room 207A. If you turn off of 17th Street going North between Pier 1 imports and Burger King onto Ashment then right (east) between the old Ponderosa Paint and the LDS institute building you will see building #2 on your left. It is a brick building with rounded corners. There is an outside door to the room we will be using and it will be propped open.

Woodcraft Guild Display Now Open

Members of the Woodcraft guild were invited to submit pieces of their work to create a woodworking display at the Madison county library.   The Display will run through the month of November 2009.  The display is up and we have already received many positive comments about the display and the craftsmanship of our members.  Please take some time to stop by the Madison County Library in Rexburg at 73 North Center sometime before Thanksgiving.   The Display will be open M-Th 9-8 Fridays 9-6 and Saturdays 10 – 4
