We will be honored to hear from Jason Clark at our July Meeting. Jason will present projects that will focus on multi axis turning and consists of up to 4 multi axis projects. The main feature is a lidded box with a twist that is turned on a total of 4 axis. Additional projects include a pair of multi axis spindles and a pair of multi axis pendants. All projects are done with minimal tools and with techniques accessible to beginners but interesting enough for more advanced turners.
Jason Clark Bio: Jason was born and raised in Pocatello and graduated from Highland High School before moving to Arizona in 1997. His interest in turning started about 8 years ago after watching an episode of The New Yankee Workshop that featured bowl turning on a lathe. A $200 investment in a lathe and tools at Harbor Freight set the wheels in motion. He is primarily self taught as a turner and is happy doing any kind of turning except segmenting.
He is currently the Vice President and Program Director for the Arizona Woodturners Association in Phoenix Arizona and does annual demonstrations at each of the 4 clubs in Arizona as well as promotional events for Arizona Woodturners and local arts and crafts shows.

I have been thinking of making some wooden wind chimes that would play a specific song or have at least a repeating pattern and while trying to figure the plan out I ran across this Japanese commercial for a cell phone that has a wooden exterior and was completely blown away. I am told that the sound you hear in this video is the actual recording from the wooden chimes as the wooden ball rolls it plays Bach’s Cantata 147. Take a minute this video is worth it.

I have been keeping my eyes out for a new chainsaw. I wanted to find a nice saw that would allow me to cut some bowl blanks. Since my shop is heated with an old fashioned wood burning stove I also wanted to find something that I would be able to use to cut some firewood. Like most woodworkers I have a specific tool in mind and I wanted to find a Stihl or a Husqvarna chainsaw. Well….. now that I have seen this video I no longer have a desire for buy just a chainsaw, I want one of these!
