Reminder the Demo that Dean Nelson will be doing next week at the Woodcraft Guild meeting for the March 5th get together. We will be meeting at EITC Building # 2 in lab 207A.
If you turn off of 17th Street going North between Pier 1 imports and Burger King onto Ashment then Left (east) between the Ponderosa Paint and the LDS institute building you will see building #2 on your left. It is a brick building with rounded corners. There is a outside door to the room we will be using and it will be propped open. I will try to park my truck by outside door and have my hazards blinking so it will be easy to find.
In addition to the Demo we will be doing a Instant Gallery again with prizes so bring something you have made to the instant Gallery. We do have some progress to announce regarding our acceptance as a local chapter into the American Association of Woodturners
I hope to see you there!
Every year, sometime between December 15th and the 25th I look at my Christmas tree and say to myself “Self, next year you should start earlier and find something that you can make for your family and friends out in the shop that would be easy, yet make a nice gift for the holidays.” It seems that I am always on the lookout for something that would fill this need. But, without fail when Christmas rolls around I have nothing.
While visiting with Dean Nelson the other day I was thrilled when he showed me this little Christmas tree ornament he made from some wood he had laying around in his shop. Yes, I know it is a little early to start working on Christmas, but for the last 20 years I have started late so I am not sure it can ever be too early.
I talked Dean into presenting at our next get-together, the complete process from start to finish on how he made this simple little gift. In addition to the demo on March 5th at 7pm Dean said he would be willing to complete a hands on portion two weeks later on March 19th at 7pm where we could get some help actually making the ornament. I would like to round up a couple of smaller lathes from guild members that we could bring in and invite anyone to come and work on these ornaments.
I have arranged to meet at Eastern Idaho Technical College in a shop that has lots of room for chairs and some video equipment that may make the demos a little easier to see. There is a nice secure place to set up our instant gallery so please plan to bring a project. This demo and hands on session is simple and fun. It would be an excellent get-together to bring a friend to. Drop me an e-mail or make a comment on the website if you have any questions.

Because of time constraints last month we will be meeting at Gary Seedall’s shop again this month. This meeting will be a working meeting and there will be no demonstrations or instant Gallery. Many members requested that they needed more time to work on the tools they were trying to make. If you did not get to the meeting last month we would still love to see you. Gary has been very accommodating and I am confident that he would be happy to get you started this week if you would like to make any turning tools or knives.
